Bear buys a strange “Wish Stick” and wishes that Nikki would love him more than anyone else in the world. It starts as a romantic dream come true, but Nikki’s love soon turns into a pathological and uncontrollable obsession. She becomes more and more unstable and increasingly violent in her possessiveness, killing anyone she sees as a threat to their relationship.

It is too late for his friend Sarah, whom Nikki kills just as she is about to admit her own feelings to Bear. Desperate for a fix, Bear finds the only remaining Wish Sticks. He figures if everyone only has one wish, he can find the one person who will wish his original wish had never been made. He looks to his friend Ian, but Ian is not taking the life-and-death situation seriously and wastes his wish on requesting a billion dollars, which rains down on him in a shower of banknotes.

When Bear gets home, everything has gone mad. Ian arrives to help, but Nikki kills him right away. Terrified and trapped, Bear barricades himself in the bathroom and swallows a lethal dose of oxycodone, hoping to break the curse through his death. He tries to save himself by changing his mind at the last second, but Nikki uses the Wish Stick for the last time.

Nikki’s wish makes Bear magically leave the bathroom. He goes to her, kisses her, and drops dead on the spot from the overdose, under the full spell of the supernatural curse.

Nikki is about to take her own life, convinced she has lost her true love forever. But in that very moment the curse is broken. The boy’s death unleashes her true personality, which has been suppressed for most of the film. The real Nikki breaks into desperate tears, looking round at the bodies of Bear, Ian and Sarah.

The tragic ending proves the murderous Nikki was never really in control of herself; she was a warped caricature brought on by the spell. Bear’s death eventually breaks the curse, but it is too late–everyone he loved has been destroyed by an obsession disguised as love.
