The next film in the Toy Story saga, Toy Story 6, seems increasingly inevitable, considering that the latest installment, Toy Story 5, continues to rake in money at a breakneck pace at the global and U.S. box office… Let’s take a look at the latest official box office figures reported by Pixar.
Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 had a record-breaking Monday with $17.3 million at the U.S. box office: a result so exceptional that it marks the best opening Monday of 2026, surpassing even the earnings of Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which previously held this record for the best opening Monday with $16.8 million earned on April 6. Toy Story 5 also surpassed the opening Monday gross of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu—also from Disney/Lucasfilm—which was released on Memorial Day Monday and grossed $16.4 million. The total four-day gross for the fifth animated installment directed by Andrew Stanton stands at $177 million across the United States and Canada.

Toy Story 5’s opening Monday also ranked as the fifth-best Monday ever for a film released in theaters in June, behind Universal’s Jurassic World ($25.3 million, June 15, 2015), Disney/Pixar’s The Incredibles 2 ($23.6 million, June 18, 2018), Inside Out 2 ($22.4 million, June 17, 2024), and Finding Dory ($19.5 million, June 20, 2016). Toy Story 5, as you can see, had the fourth-best Monday in June ever for an animated film—all of which were Pixar productions. Among the highest-grossing weekdays (Monday through Thursday) since the start of the year, Toy Story 5 ranks third, behind the opening Wednesday of Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie ($34.5 million, April 1) and the second day of release for the Illumination sequel ($24.6 million, April 2).
Forecasts for the Upcoming Weekend
There’s no doubt about it this weekend: Toy Story 5 will take the top spot in its second weekend, clearly outpacing Warner Bros./DC Studios’ Supergirl, which is expected to gross around $50 million in its opening weekend. As with all Pixar films, the only question is how high Andrew Stanton’s new film will climb: currently, estimates point to a 40–45% drop, with Friday-through-Sunday earnings between $88 million and $96 million. It’s worth noting that Inside Out 2 holds the record for the best second weekend for an animated film with $101.2 million, down 34% from its opening.
Meanwhile, Atomic Monster’s Obsession, produced by Focus Features and Blumhouse, shows no signs of slowing down, having claimed second place on Monday with $2.3 million and a total of $217.4 million in its sixth week.
